Following a recent site migration from a legacy CMS to Sitefinity, a client faced a growing number of broken links across multiple environments. As new users began publishing content without a clear understanding of Sitefinity's Site Sync functionality, absolute URLs embedded in articles created cross-linking issues between production, development, and UAT environments. This introduced inconsistencies that disrupted user experience and content reliability.
To address the challenge, Visus, LLC developed a custom solution that leveraged Sitefinity's Background Tasks. This solution enabled the creation of an automated site crawler, designed to scan all available pages and validate internal and external links. The crawler identifies broken links and flags environment-specific URL issues, ensuring that references remain consistent across all deployment stages.
By proactively automating link validation, the client reduced time spent on manual troubleshooting and improved overall content integrity. The solution helped eliminate broken links that might otherwise go unnoticed until flagged by users or search engines.
Beyond technical resolution, the project also highlighted the importance of comprehensive training and documentation for new CMS users. Reinforcing best practices, especially around tools like Site Sync, minimized user error and improved long-term site governance.
Continuous monitoring now ensures consistent content quality and optimal site health across environments. The implementation demonstrates how a targeted, proactive approach can streamline operations and maintain a seamless digital experience through every stage of a website's lifecycle.
